![]() Question: "Can anybody learn Usui Reiki Ryoho?"Answer:“Of course, a man, woman, young or old, people with knowledge, anybody who has a common sense can receive the power accurately in a short time and can heal selves and others. I have taught to more than one thousand people but no one is failed. Everyone is able to heal illness with just Shoden [First Degree]. You may think it is inscrutable to get the healing power in a short time but it is reasonable. It is the feature of my method that heals difficult illnesses easily”. The translated words of Reiki's founder, Mikao Usui (1865 - 1926) Taken from the manual given to students of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in Japan Reiki I (also known as First Degree or Shoden) Reiki II (also known as Second Degree or Okuden) Reiki Master/Teacher (also known as Third Degree or Shinpiden) Reiki Training Courses on Other Dates My Teaching Style Reiki Lineage Reiki Course Testimonials Reiki I (also known as First Degree or Shoden)Reiki I is suitable for everyone. It requires no prior knowledge, experience or belief. By the end of the morning of the day course, you will have Reiki energy flowing through your hands and will be able to draw on it for the benefit of yourself and others. One of the greatest benefits of Reiki is self-treatment and this is the emphasis at this level, although you will also learn how to treat family and friends, plants and animals. Course content: This course gives you the best of both worlds, being divided into a pre-course component and an in-person day course. The pre-course component takes about 9 hours and involves reading through the course manual, listening to some commentary tracks on one audio CD, and optionally practising a couple of energy exercises on a second audio CD. The course materials are sent out in advance (on payment of a £70 deposit) so that you can read about the history, background and development of Reiki, its benefits, how we can use it on ourselves and others, and much more, at your leisure, in the comfort of your own home, before the course. This approach gives you as much time as you need to absorb the theory about Reiki without having to do so under pressure during the course itself, as most people within the world of Reiki (including me when I first did this level) have to do. The day course itself is mainly practical. On the morning of the course, you will receive 3 First Degree Reiju empowerments to connect you to Reiki, explore energy in a variety of ways, learn an exercise to help keep your Reiki strong after the course (Hatsurei Ho) and consider various ways of self-treating, including the original Japanese meditative approach. In the afternoon, you will give and receive a full Reiki treatment – so the course is a very relaxing experience! Course prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for First Degree Reiki. The course is suitable for everyone. It requires no prior knowledge or experience. By the end of the morning of the course, you - whatever your background - will have Reiki energy flowing through your hands and will be able to draw on it for the benefit of yourself and others. Investment: £140 (£70 deposit, balance of £70 payable on the day), including 3 First Degree Reiju empowerments, a 170-page professionally printed manual, two audio CDs (one containing commentary tracks relevant to First Degree Reiki and the other containing four Reiki guided meditations), a high-quality First Degree Usui Reiki certificate (given to you on the day), as well as ongoing post-course advice and support, including the opportunity to attend my free monthly Reiki sharing group in Woking and to join an online Reiki support group hosted by Taggart King of Reiki Evolution. Course Dates (2010): Courses start at 9.30 a.m. and end no later than 5.30 p.m., with about 45 minutes for lunch. To book on one of the above Reiki I training courses: call me on 07936 44 39 77 or click here to e-mail me Tell me the date you wish to book on, making sure you leave plenty of time to complete the 9 hours of pre-course reading. If a place is available on your chosen date, you will be able to secure your place by sending me a cheque for £70 (deposit). I can also accept payment by PayPal; please contact me if this is how you would prefer to pay. Please note that deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable and apply only to the course date for which the original booking is made. If you need to transfer course, a £10 rebooking fee will apply. Reiki II (also known as Second Degree or Okuden)Reiki II builds on your experience from Reiki I. It expands your healing ability and intuition, and allows further self-healing to occur. It brings you up to practitioner level but is also ideal for anyone wishing just to deepen his or her commitment to self-treatment.Course content: This course gives you the best of both worlds, being divided into a pre-course learning component and an in-person day course. The pre-course component takes about 6 hours and involves learning three Japanese symbols, which allow the Reiki energy to be focussed for specific intentions, including physical healing, mental & emotional healing, and distant healing. The course manual and audio CD are sent out in advance (on payment of a £70 deposit) so that you can learn the symbols at your leisure, in the comfort of your own home, before the course. This really takes the pressure off, as most people within the world of Reiki (including me, when I first did this level) have to learn the Second Degree symbols under pressure on the in-person course itself. The day course is mainly practical. On the morning of the course, you will receive 3 Second Degree Reiju empowerments, experience the energies represented by the first two symbols and practise sending distant healing using the third symbol. In the afternoon, you will practise techniques to make your treatments more intense and experience ways of working with more intent and intuition. As this is the Practitioner level, the manual also contains information relevant to the practice of Reiki. Because you will be receiving Reiki as well as giving it, the course is a very relaxing experience. Course prerequisites: You must have completed First Degree Usui Reiki at least 2 months prior to joining this course. If you did First Degree elsewhere, you will need to cover the material on my First Degree course (see above for details) beforehand because the Second Degree course builds on this. To do so, I will send you the First Degree course materials (170-page manual and 2 audio CDs together with a study guide) in return for a nominal £25 to cover costs. Investment: £170 (£70 deposit, balance of £100 payable on the day), including 3 Second Degree Reiju empowerments, a 110-page professionally printed manual, an audio CD containing commentary tracks relevant to Reiki II, a high-quality Second Degree Usui Reiki certificate (given to you on the day) stating that you are qualified to practise Reiki, as well as ongoing post-course advice and support, including the opportunity to attend my free monthly Reiki sharing group in Woking and to join the Reiki Evolution online Reiki support group. Course Dates (2010): Courses start at 9.30 a.m. and end no later than 5.30 p.m., with about 45 minutes for lunch. To book on one of the above Second Degree courses: call me on 07936 44 39 77 or click here to e-mail me Tell me the date you wish to book on, making sure you leave enough time to complete the 6 hours of pre-course reading, listening and learning. Please do not try to compress this into a day or two - leave plenty of time for the information to filter down into your long-term memory (you will be glad you did). Reiki Master/Teacher (also known as Third Degree or Shinpiden)Third Degree Reiki is the final level in the Usui system. It is open to those who have completed Reiki I and II and have been working with the energy regularly and for some time.Unlike some Reiki teachers, I do not split Third Degree Reiki into two separate training levels (sometimes known as Reiki Master Practitioner and Reiki Master Teacher). Neither of my own two Reiki Masters did so and I do not feel that this is necessary either. So this course trains you how to carry out Reiki treatments at Master level and equips you fully to teach Reiki, whether to the general public or to your family and friends. However, if your main interest is in self-development and in increasing the effectiveness of your treatments - whether of yourself or others -, rather than in teaching Reiki, the course gives you the tools you need for this, too. Course content: This course gives you the best of both worlds, being divided into a pre-course reading, listening, learning and practising component and a 2-day in-person course. The pre-course component takes a good 30 hours and involves reading selected sections from the course manual, listening to 2 audio CDs, watching a DVD and carrying out energy work. You will need to allow yourself plenty of time for the pre-course component and not try to compress the 20 hours into just a few days. The course manual, audio CDs and DVD are sent out well in advance of the course (on payment of the £130 deposit) so that you can take all the time you need to learn about Reiki at this level at your leisure, in the comfort of your own home, rather than under pressure on the in-person course, as most people within the world of Reiki (including me, when I first did this level) have to do. You will be learning how to draw, name and use the Usui and 'Tibetan' Master symbols and spending time meditating on them to experience their energies. There are also several other symbols to learn. These enable you to focus the Reiki energy much more specifically and profoundly than at Second Degree. You will also spend time on a very important hara-defining (i.e. hara-experiencing) meditation. You will learn how to carry out Western-style attunements and Japanese Reiju empowerments at all Reiki levels. You will experience the Reiki 'kotodama', the sacred mantras that pre-date the use of symbols within Reiki, and find out how to use them for the treatment of yourself and others. You will also develop your ability to work with intention and intuition. In addition, the course manual covers a number of techniques that have been introduced into Reiki or can be used with it, including crystal grids, antakharanas, psychic surgery, pendulum dowsing, and a microcosmic orbit meditation. The course itself is mainly practical, putting into practice what you have been learning. Course prerequisites: You must have completed Usui Reiki First Degree and Second Degree in order to be eligible for this course. You will have done Second Degree a good 6 months previously and have been working with the energy regularly since then. You may be asked to produce a copy of your First and Second Degree certificates prior to acceptance on the course. If you did First and Second Degree elsewhere, you will need to cover the material in my First and Second Degree courses beforehand (see above for details) because the Master/Teacher course builds on this. I will send you the 170-page First Degree manual and the 110-page Second Degree manual, together with the corresponding audio CDs (3 in all), in return for a nominal £40 to cover costs. Investment: £480 (£130 deposit, balance of £350 payable on first day), including 1 Master-level Western-style attunement, 3 Master-level Reiju empowerments, a 240-page Master/Teacher manual, a 75-page professionally printed guide to teaching Reiki at all levels (includes suggested course schedules and practical exercises to take students through), two audio CDs, a DVD, a high-quality Reiki Master/Teacher certificate (given to you on the second day) stating that you are qualified to practise and to teach Reiki, as well as ongoing post-course advice and support. This includes the opportunity to sit in on one of my First and/or Second Degree courses and to assist me in carrying out Reiju empowerments at the Reiki sharing groups that I host in Woking. You will also be able to join the online Reiki support group hosted by Taggart King of Reiki Evolution which includes a community for Reiki Masters only. Course Dates (2010): Courses start at 9.30 a.m. and end no later than 5.30 p.m., with about 45 minutes for lunch. To book on one of the above Reiki Master/Teacher Courses: call me on 07936 44 39 77 or click here to e-mail me. Tell me the date you wish to book on. If a place is available on your chosen date, you will be able to secure your place by sending me a cheque for £130 (deposit). I can also accept payment by PayPal; please contact me if this is how you would prefer to pay. Please note that deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable and apply only to the course date for which the original booking is made. If you need to transfer course, a £25 rebooking fee will apply. Reiki Training Courses on Other DatesCourses are also possible by arrangement on dates other than those shown above, including during the week. I am also willing to run courses for people who wish to book as a group, such as friends, colleagues or a family wishing to train together. If you would like to enquire about alternative dates or have a group of 4 (minimum) to 6 (maximum) people interested in training together, please give me a call on 07936 44 39 77 or click here to e-mail me My Teaching StyleI’m organised, calm and patient, and I care about creating a friendly, enjoyable environment in which everyone feels at ease, isn’t put on the spot (I hate this myself!) but is ‘seen’ and ‘heard’ - and preferably has some laughs along the way. Within the carefully thought-out structure that the courses follow, we will take as much time as necessary to make sure that you feel happy with the practical application of whatever we happen to be working on.I’m pretty down-to-earth about Reiki. Yes, we will probably end up talking about chakras at some point, but Reiki works at subtle AND gross levels so I also always talk about Reiki in the context of the physical body (we can all relate to having one of those!) and refer to some of the scientific work that is now being done on it. My past students have included a medical doctor as well as several physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and nurses. I myself have a professional background as a full-time medical translator. Reiki Lineage'Lineage' is considered to be something very important within Reiki. It is a bit like a family tree and shows the line of teachers from your teacher back to Reiki's founder, Dr. Mikao Usui.An authentic Reiki teacher will be able to trace his or her lineage back to Mikao Usui (via a Western 'family tree' or a Japanese one) and should be able to tell you it. My first Reiki Master/Teacher, Jayne Williams, with whom I studied Reiki from 1999 to 2001, trained in India. Through her, I have the following Reiki lineage: Chujiro Hayashi Hawayo Takata Phyllis Lei Furumoto Upasana Grugan Ma Rikta Ma Shanti Swami Akash Ma Gyan Shabnam Jayne Williams Sue Norman When I retrained with Taggart King in 2003-2004, I acquired the following Western lineage: Chujiro Hayashi Hawayo Takata Phyllis Lei Furumoto Florence O’Neil Jerry Farley June Woods Simon Treselyan Marcus Hayward Diane Whittle Taggart King Sue Norman ... and the following Japanese lineage: Suzuki San Chris Marsh Taggart King Sue Norman By training with me, you, too, become part of these lineages.
